600CC boxer motor |
|
|
In my quest for an exceptionally different engine for use in FSAE, my team and I came across the BMW 600cc boxer motors (for both cars and motorcycles)
What do you all think about taking a 1960's model engine and making it EFI while bossting the corvette out of it...
Think we can get far without it breaking? _________________ "In slow, out fast

Well, I'm not familiar with bmw's blocks, however if you sleeve the block, and upgrade the internals (CNC boxter crank should be relatively simple vs an L4 crank hehe) I'd think 200hp would be feasable on race gas.
Sizing a turbo might be hard but I think Garret carries a full line of GT turbos now small enough for FSAE cars.
But, I base these assumptions on how much power 1960s era v8s are capable of putting out per liter on race fuel today.
If sequential injection isn't a big priority, you could do batch injection with a megasquirt relatively cheaply, unless your plan is for them to make thier own from scratch.
Anyway, I'd say boost the heck out of it and use indavidual throttle bodies >
Hey, just for a kick, contact Rotex (Rotax?) And see if they've got any of thier new centrifugal superchargers that small
$0.02 ... sounds like a fun project even if you blow the heads into the cars beside you :O |

We found some superchargers for Briggs Animal blocks (5hp)... we want to put on on each side of the beast
The general idea is that 15 psi would deliver about 85hp on stock heads. If we extrude hone it and custom grind a cam, plus new internals... I think we could easily get 115 hp from it (even with the restrictor) _________________ "In slow, out fast
