Been awhile since an update, here's a video from me driving this morning and freezing my butt off! Full throttle around 2:10 in the video. Thought we needed some more La Bala videos out there. The engine slows a bit the upper RPM ranges which I attribute to the stock electronics controlling the engine and trans. It's crazy fast in the low RPMs.
Not much progress on the car over the past 6 months, until the last couple of weeks. I've spent the last couple of weeks cleaning things up on the car because I have been contemplating selling it, or maybe just parting it out. Added a center console. Covered the exposed round tubes with some roll-bar padding. Cleaned-up my side panels. Suff like that. It really seems that's its been raining and/or cold forever here. My roof project was a total failure in the end, but I did learn quite a few lessons if I ever get back to trying again.
Turning: I hooked up the G-meter today with the car, got 1.07G steady around the a cul-de-sac that was full of gravel and a 1.48G peak. So, that's a little bit better than the best I got in the Lotus Elise with good tires and clean road. So, that's awesome!!!
Looks like fun. It might be just as well you don't have more open road nearby. You might get in trouble. _________________ Always remember, ain't nothing is as simple as it seems.
sounds good, looks like it gets up and goes.did you upgrade the elise for the vette.if so i can see why you would sell the labala.hard to compete with c6.they are by far the best supercar for the money.
Oh yeah. I picked it up a few months ago. 2011 GrandSport. It's got the Z06 bodywork and most of the suspension/brake/wheel-size from the Z06 as well, but with a removable top and standard engine. But at 436 HP, it's more than necessary for a street car
I trade cars a lot though. I started the La Bala project just having sold my 98 Vette for a 04 350Z. Then I got a Lotus Elise to replace that, then now another Vette to replace the Lotus. I just like trying everything out for a couple of years.
Now I've got the urge to build something in the LeMans/Daytona Prototype/McLaren F1 type of car. However, 2 car garage means that something has to go to make that happen. I know a kit car can be a hard sell though, so I may end up seeing if someone needs the bodywork and go on the next build using the same rolling chassis. Well, that's all IF I decide to do this. I'm still exploring options. I look forward to seeing what Steve's design for a roof is. In the mean time, I intend to find some more time to enjoy the La Bala.
I passed my emissions test today. I also discovered that I needed to wire up the brake switch to the PCM so that traction control would not kick on in error mode, which means slow first gear and slow shifting. So, the car is even faster now, and it's environmentally friendly
134 HC, limit 220
1.12 CO, limit 1.2
I use the factory northstar electronics and a bullet cat on the exhaust.
So, I need to hook up some radiator fans for when I'm stuck in traffic. Otherwise, the engine runs cool though
And then, I think I am finally mechanically sound on this car. I might be able to finally spend some time making the car look good. A little sanding, maybe a panel or 2 to hide some of the inner workings, maybe some new seats...again. Still haven't found the perfect seat yet. I'm thinking about the jaz products turbo pro seats. I tried to get layback with the scat seats, but the front sits too high because the seats aren't supposed to be laid back like this. It's mainly because I'm 6'4" though, and sitting upright puts my head above the windshield, hehe.
I got my custom axles in yesterday. They basically used their own axle design they use and attached a MR2 outer end and welded the GM inner shaft to their tri-pot for the inner. They came fully assembled and installed pretty easy. I got to take the car out for a spin last night when I finished installing the axles, that was fun. It really got me interested back in the car some. Went with http://www.driveshaftshop.com/
I have a very busy schedule coming up, but when I find the time, I'm going to make some various videos of the car in motion. I'll post up links here. Driving this little car with a V-8 (with no torque management) is
Now I don't have to be worried about my axles anymore. Driving around with my own custom creations/hack job axles always kept me nervous and was really sapping the fun out of driving it. Now I need to replace the windshield...what year Metro windshield do I need again...I'm sure I have the info somewhere, just can't seem to find it.
The windshield is a 1996 Geo Metro and it needs to be a Plinkton brand. They may ask you if it is a 2 door or 4 door. It does not matter because the windshields are the same.

Same here. Now you can lay down some real performance numbers for us!
Exactly! You can also get those with a shade tint stripe in brown or green or none. _________________ Components, core kits, premium component kits and rollers now available
Back to running condition. I've been busy trying to clean things up on the car to make it more appealing to a buyer. It's really brought the car along. Went to the grocery store tonight...I forget how small it is sometimes...
