The new ECU is coming from a junk yard out of an 05 Malibu. It will need to be reflashed for a 05 Ion Redline, then everything can be adjusted.

That is really neat! Thanks for the info. Did you purchase a special package to reflash the ecu, or are you relying on your dyno shop to do that job?

You have to have the tuner software, or take it to a stealership. The tuner copied the base map out of my old computer which he will use to reflash the new one. Willy Wiggins, the tuner has thousands of bucks tied up in HP Tuner software.

Took some tweaking, and trying to figure out how to use Utube, but OH YEAH!!! ]Shocked Very Happy .
231 corrected SAE WHP at 6700 RPM and climbing. I haven't had it out of 3rd gear yet, but it gets to 80 MPH in a hurry. Very Happy
CRANK UP THE VOLUME
Thank You Willy Wiggins Racing and Performance.

Was that a 4th gear run to redline on the rollers? Cool

I'd love to know your transmission ratios. I can input your data into Cartest.exe and give you some performance numbers. Which transaxle are you using again?

WOW! I just can't wait to see some videos of you driving the car on track

It was turning 135 at 6750 RPM in 4th. We have raised the rev limiter to 7000 RPM. I'll have to check on the 05 Ion Redline trans. I think it is an F35. Final drive ratio is 4.05:1

From ionredline forums:

Gear Ratios:
1 3.380:1
2 1.760:1
3 1.180:1
4 0.890:1
5 0.700:1
Final drive: 4.050:1

FYI -
Gearbox:- LSJ
Tire:- 215/45-17
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 25.828 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 167.882 MPH at 6500 RPM

Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1162 RPM 40 MPH = 1549 RPM 50 MPH = 1936 RPM 60 MPH = 2323 RPM
70 MPH = 2710 RPM 80 MPH = 3097 RPM 90 MPH = 3485 RPM 100 MPH = 3872 RPM

Top Speed in 1 gear = 34.768 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 3385 RPM dropping 3115 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 66.771 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 4358 RPM dropping 2142 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 99.591 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 4903 RPM dropping 1597 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 132.042 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 5112 RPM dropping 1388 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 167.882 MPH

In the dyno video he stomps on the gas in 4th at about 60 mph. It doesn't take long to get to 135. Very Happy The power is over 200 HP at 2500 RPM, and climbs gradually from there. It's still going up at 7000. In the latest issue of HRM, this engine was making 371+ HP by changing the supercharger and cams. They stopped the test at 7100 because it was still running stock valve springs.

Congrats on the awesome car. It was a challenge to get all the bugs out but it's got to be a fun car to drive now.

And I forgot to tell you that my dyno seems to be a little stingy. It's a consistent 10-15rwhp lower than a few of the other dynos in the area.

very nice numbers. sounds good! Good luck with the registration. That's what I've been working on. Maybe you'll be lucky and be in one of the state's where it's easy to register a custom-built car.

I just received my copy and there are 8 total photos of La Balas in the August 2009 issue.

Jim's car is shown at the top of the index page. It's a prominent photo. Next it looks like they caught wind of the fact that I am adding hardtop and doors and they've got some photos of that in the What's New section. Next is a 'Compact Power' article about the benefits of using FWD engines in mid-engine configuration that talks about Jims Ecotec and my JDM 20v Blacktop. Further in there is coverage of the Knott's Berry Farm show and a photo of Paul Pearsons Electric Bala. Finally there is a preview article from the Carlisle Pa. show with another photo of Jims beautiful #003 Bala! Plus is says that next issue will have a feature article on your car Jim!

I think they liked what they saw eh?! Cool

PostPosted: Tue Oct 27, 2009 2:41 pm    Post subject: Panhard Bar Installation Reply with quote

Have you ever noticed that sometime the hardest part of a project is getting started. Got started installing the panhard bar this afternoon about 1400. It's coming up on 1800 now, and I'm almost finished. I bought the bar and adjustable axle mount from Speedway.

This is what I started with.

Notice the precision ride height maintaining blocks under the axle.

These are the parts I bought from Speedway.

I removed one of the braces and clamped the fixture to the axle.

Then I bored a 3/4" hole in the bottom frame cross piece and welded a 3" long piece of .120 wall 3/4" DOM tube in the hole. A 1/2" grade 8 bolt will hold the hiem in place at that end. I'll finish it up in the morning.

Finished up the panhard bar installation today. A lot easier than building the watts linkage to start with. La Bala #003 is going to a car show Saturday so I need to spruce it up a bit. I'll post my impression of any handling changes as soon as I have a chance to push it again. Only one more autocross left this year. Hope to make it.

The mount is definately the easiest way to go, and it allows for simple adjustment. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play with it in November. I'm almost finished building, for a while anyway. I will be playing with NC La Bala and Stalk-N-Stien a lot next year. Very Happy
