Grabercars takes a giant step towards production

When the La Bala project started out in my garage 4 years ago, it was intended only as a personal expression of creativity. It was my way of thumbing my nose at the established car companies that overstuff their products, even so-called sports cars, with items that rob their cars of performance. My vision was to design and build a no-frills car that would outperform cars costing 10 times as much. I am within grasp of these goals!

I firmly believe (as do many others) that La Bala has a strong future with the legions of hard-core sports car enthusiasts that want a relatively inexpensive and lightweight sportscar with ultra-high performance. Persons who are willing to put some sweat equity into assembling a car to keep the costs down. Having to assemble the car provides a true sense of accomplishment and pride when completed, and at the same time gives the owner/builder true knowledge of the mechanical assemblies.

La Bala has a full body with a modern, cutting edge look, and provides operating efficiency via ultra-light weight and modern, efficient powerplants. These are qualities missing from a market dominated by 60's style replicas and big-block American powerplants. La Bala can be powered by any modern FWD powertrain and even motorcylce engines, making it an ideal choice for any hard-core enthusiast no matter what their preferred engine maker is.

Here is news that will affect everyone that is interested in La Bala: I am working  to have the car produced on a scale of about 100/year. The concept is 'the Ikea car'. La Bala is a unique in that it is a high-performance vehicle and yet extremely simply to assemble. Each La Bala will be delivered in a series of numbered crates.  Each numbered crate contains a sub-section of the car (front, middle, rear, interior, etc). Inside each crate are all the parts for that section all nicely bagged and tagged. Since the car is so simple to assemble, the instructions are done pictorally so they can be universally understood by any language (hence the Ikea concept). You start with bag A in the first crate, follow the instructions page by page and by the time you are finished with bag X, you have assembled a section of your car! Do this for each crate and then put the sections together to finish the car. It's like a giant erector set! Everything will be clean, painted and ready to go. A person could theoretically build the entire car in their living room, but of course the trick would be to get it out the door!  Those people that don't want to assemble the car themselves will be able to buy completed cars directly from Grabercars or distributors around the world.

I am currently designing the interior of the car and I can tell you that it will be lightweight and purpose driven yet jaw-droppingly beautiful, with carbon-fiber and aluminum elements throughout.

At this point I can tell you that the car will be still available as a set of plans for anyone that wants to build from the ground up. I will sell crate kits via this website, in person at shows around the country, and via full-color catalog for mail order. As we ramp up productions La Balas will be appearing for you to see and purchase at many of the major car events across the country including auto-X, HPDE track days, the car show circuit, etc. At many of these events there will be crated kits ready to purchase and take with you that day in your minivan, pickup truck or trailer.

I am very excited at the prospect of turning my passion into my business and I hope that you are too. My goal is to create a product that I am completely proud of, and I will work tirelessly so that everyone that sees one will be left with their jaw open when they see the quality, simplicity and completeness of the car.

If you are interested in the La Bala and want to be placed on my mailing list for purchasing a Grabercars La Bala crate kit please don't hesistate to contact me via the contact form.
