Chassis Plans Showing how templates work Print E-mail

Following is a description of how easy it is to cut perfect miters for the la Bala chassis.

Every tube in the entire chassis (Main Cabin, Front Suspension, Engine Bay) is printed out on a separate sheet of paper. If the tube has a complicated miter or coped end, the ends are unfolded and the paper is used as a template.

Here is a photograph of the main cabin floor plan drawing. It comes fully dimensioned. All of the floor plan tubes also come with their own full-scale paper templates for cutting the mitered ends.P1010081

Here we see vertical tube #5 of the main cabin. The bottom of the tube meets into a square tube, the top meets into a 1.5" round tube. Figuring out these copes and miters would be very time consuming if you did it by hand...P1010086

But the Grabercars La Bala Chassis Plans have a secret! The tube has been unwrapped and the ends printed out at full scale. Now you simply have to cut out the paper by following the line...P1010083

Here you see the piece of paper ready to be wrapped around the actual steel tube...P1010087

Follow the markings on the paper to align the template and the tube...P1010088

Trace the tube end pattern onto the steel with a permanent marker...P1010091

Then all you have to do is cut/grind the tube to the edge of the black marking. P1010094

You do one end, scribe a mark into the black ink, measure the distance to the other end of the tube and wrap the other template at that end. Then mark the other end with the permanent marker and cut that end to the line.

You will end up with a perfectly coped and mitered tube that you should not be able to slip a piece of paper between the joints when you are finished!

Cost of the La Bala Chassis and Suspension Plans: $179.

Since my plans are 90% completed (just missing some suspension drawings) I have decided to offer them for sale at a reduced introductory price of $99. That way interested builders can get started on their chassis now. Any drawings not provided in this first release will be delivered at no additional cost as they are completed until the purchaser receives the complete set.
