We are getting very close to finishing up the moulds. In
preparation for pulling the moulds off the plug we need to make some
sturdy steel frames to attach to the bodywork. These frames won't be so
much for reinforcement, but will allow us to do our layups inside the
moulds when we are laying up bodies.
Here John Lee is laying up the very last piece of fiberglass mat to the nose of the car. This is a big deal because it means we are finished with the main 12 ounce layups for the mould and only have a few pieces of reinforcing cloth and the steel support frames to bond in.
We started laying down the top reinforcement layer of glass cloth. It's a heavy bi-axially stranded cloth. If I could remember the name of the stuff, I would tell you what it is called!
We used a ton of resin and rolled the cloth out. The top of the bonnet is FINISHED.
In other related news: I have almost finished putting together the vacuum thermo-forming machine that will create the headlamp covers. Jason Zwiebel was instrumental in major assembly of this thing with an air tank donated by Bill Kibler. The air tank might be too small, but we'll know by the weekend.
