Over Halfway done with the molds Print E-mail

It's been a long couple of weeks since my last update. My schedule consists mainly of 10 hour workdays, then a 30 minute drive in rush-hour traffic to Bill's shop for 3-5 hours of fiberglass layup/cleanup. I am getting pretty tired of the schedule to be quite honest.

Happily John and have surpassed the half-way point in the layup. We have the plug completely covered in 6 ounces of mat, and the hood (bonnet) is all the way out to 12oz. I am taking this weekend off to tend to my family and friends (ok, to party and carouse) and we'll get started on bringing the other areas of the mould out to 12oz. The first 6 oz were done in 1.5oz increments and that did take a while. Now we are laying up 2 - 3oz pieces so each area we lay up from now on will get out to 12oz right away. After the full 12 oz covers everything there is one more special layer of mat that will strengthen the moulds even more. Finally each piece of the mould will have a steel brace-frame built to make the moulds even more rigid and to stand the test of time.
