May 3rd Progress Report - Major Update Print E-mail
Bala Moving to Global mfg 017 I made quite a bit of progress on the bodywork the last couple of weeks. It had really stalled out there for a couple of months and I just didn't seem to see much progress. Unfortunately the coolest months of the year have just whizzed on by, leaving me with another summer in the Graber garage to contend with... or so I thought...

Bala Moving to Global mfg 020

Life has a strange way of turning and twisting and forming it's own paths sometimes. When we try to control things too tightly we can get all wound up in knots. But when you let life work itself out, sometimes suprising things can happen.

This is the story. About a year ago I made a license plate cover for my wife's mini-van. It says "I couldn't find the sportscar of my dreams, so I built it myself" and it also has my website address on it. I hadn't thought anything about it since then. But last week my phone rang. It was a guy, his name is Bill Kibler, who saw the plate while sitting behind the van while waiting at a stop light. Bill wrote the website address down on a piece of paper and went home to check it out. Several hours later he picked up the phone and gave me a call.  Bill owns a machine shop and makes parts for off-road race trucks and buggies as well as having spent a number of years working with composites and racecars. He also has a group of friends in the composites, chassis building and racing industry. One of Bill's now not so secret dreams is to build a car from scratch, starting with the engine. This is one smart guy. :-) The shop is about 5 minutes down the road  from my house and there is room available to work on the car. Since I am at the stage of the car plug where things are going the get really messy and stinky from resins I decided to finish the plug and the molds there and Bill has agreed to work on the project as well.
