Progress Report - July 30th, 2004 - New Decklid Print E-mail

Now that the bodywork phase is in full swing and progress is swift it's inevitable that design concerns would start to appear. I really truly enjoy receiving email from people with constructive criticism about the car and the shape. And believe it or not even at this late stage I am still open to making changes, albeit not major ones! Take the rear decklid for instance. I have received quite a bit of commentary about how flat and featureless the current decklid is. To be honest, I didn't think it was so bad... But it got me to thinking that maybe it could be improved. Now is the time to do that sort of thing. But not next week! :)

I added two bump-outs (is there a better word?) to the rear deck behind each seat. You can't make these too tall because the really appear cartoony. But a hard look at the design study and it does seem to work pretty well. One thing is certain, it looks a lot more like an Elise to me!

I sepnt some quality time this afternoon altering materials and finding a color RED that I like. I think it looks good in red. Don't you? Of course that type of decision is months away still...

Here is a much more detailed rendering of the body, and please notice the nice reflective floor! :)
