Progress Report - June 27, 2004 |

Another weekend that could be titled 'Lack of Progress in the Graber Garage - Report' . This is the view of my garage as we left Friday afternoon for a weekend up in the cool pine forests of northeastern Arizona. Whats notable to me about the photo (and probably of most interest to you all) is the size comparison between the Jetta (Bora for my European friendss) and La Bala.
The width is similar, yes, and the bumper heights are similar, yes, but all similarities end there. La bala is only 38" tall to the top of the windshield. The rear engine deck is only 30" tall.
About the weekend. I had initially planned to stay home to work on the car all weekend. But with the entire family threatening to expel me from the inner circle, a wise choice was made... It was 54f up in the cool pine forests of Northeastern Arizona. Arizona is an amazing place there are more changes in landscape than anywhere else in the entire United States. From Sub-sea level, all the way over 12,000ft in less than 4 hours. We had a great time at the Sunrise Ski Resort (yes, even without snow). During the summer months, the slopes are overrun by the Kamikazee Downhill Mountain Bikers. They ride the lift to the top and then hi-tail it straight down the mountain, Helmets, full body armor, moutain bikes with more suspension travel than most motorcycles... It's madness. And I really, REALLY want to try it sometime. Unfortunately, the bikes appear to be well out of my financial reach, and I am not gettin any younger. Although there were some older guys on the slopes. They appeared to be the IronMan Mike Type...
My wife Yvonne, the 2 kids and I rode the quad lift to the top and then we hiked down to the base. It turned we had a really great time. I'm glad we went. |
