Progress report - June 21, 2004 Print E-mail

Father's Day came and went at the Graber Garage and the car went untouched for the entire weekend. Arghh. I suppose everything needs a break every once in a while, but I really had momentum on my side, so it was painful not to be able to get out there and sweat a bit.

The weekend was fun. We celebrated my son's 9th birthday; it's amazing how quickly the years scream past. Time seems to be moving ever quicker as each day passes. I remember sitting in class in 6th grade thinking that a day was interminable... Pretty soon the days will be such a blur that I won't be able to even tell what is going on. (Wait... that's happening already! Oh shit!)

We had cousins and other relatives visiting from California. They were in for the entire weekend too. I really had a good time for the most part. It was a food and drinking -fest: All-American gluttonry at it's finest. By Sunday I was generally overwhelmed by the pace of the festivities and during most of the day I simply had to retreat to the computer room (Where at least I got to watch the USF1 race in relative tranquility). That's my introverted side showing through. Some people really thrive on social contact. I prefer solitude. If I had a choice of two beaches to go to for vacation, one South Beach, Miami (mega populated and active), the other Cinnamon Bay, St. John, Virgin Islands (not another soul on the beach), I would pick the 'Virgins' every time.

My good friend Jim Williams came by the Garage for a few hours on Sunday. The rest of the clan was out and about and so we spent some quality time talking about future plans for Grabercars. Jim said, with a slight smile, but mostly seriousness, that he would like to be the one who gets La Bala chassis #02. That led me to ask myself whether La Bala is a car that should be sold. Sold as a kit, as a set of plans, as a book, as a roller... Does Grabercars become a business? Apparently there is a positive vibe about the project. People seem to like it. Will people buy it?
